You’re on holiday in the south of Tenerife, you’ve had a few days of beach and long, lazy lunches, and all of a sudden your body’s crying out for a proper workout. If you train regularly, you’ll know the feeling: holidays are great, but losing your rhythm completely is the last thing you want. The good news? You don’t have to choose between resting and staying in shape. You can pop into our box for a single session, train with the group and carry on enjoying the island with a clear conscience.
What’s a drop-in, and why does it suit you?
In the world of CrossFit and functional boxes, a drop-in is a one-off class: you come along for a day, pay for just that session and train alongside everyone else like one of the regulars. No sign-up fee, no contract, no paperwork. It’s exactly what people do when they’re travelling and don’t want to stop training, and for us it’s the most normal thing in the world: every week we welcome visitors passing through Tenerife who want to fit in a HYROX or CrossTraining session between day trips.
The best part is you don’t need to know anyone or turn up with a group. You arrive, we introduce you to the coach on duty, we talk you through the WOD and off you go. If it’s your first time in a box, don’t worry, we scale the weights and movements to your level.
Where we are (and why it’s so handy)
BlackBOX is in Las Chafiras, in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona, which is pretty much smack in the middle of the south of the island. From Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, El Médano, Golf del Sur or San Isidro, you’re ten or fifteen minutes away by car. If you’re staying somewhere in the south, which is where most tourists base themselves, it’s dead easy to get to us without losing half your morning to the journey.
What you’ll find when you walk in
You won’t find rows of conventional gym machines here, or people scrolling on their phones between sets. Here’s what we’ve got instead:
- CrossTraining (CrossFit): group classes led by a coach who runs the session, mixing strength, cardio and functional work. The classic box format.
- HYROX: if you’re prepping for a HYROX race or you just fancy trying this format that’s absolutely taking off right now, we’ve got dedicated training with all the stations.
- Functional, weightlifting and gymnastics: in case you want something more specific or fancy working on your technique.
All of it in a real community atmosphere, which for us is what sets a box apart from an ordinary gym. You walk in as a total stranger and ten minutes later you’re high-fiving half the room.
How the drop-in works with us
It’s simple. Drop us a message on WhatsApp or Instagram the day before (or the same day, if there’s space), tell us which day and time works for you, and we’ll confirm. Have a look at the class timetable to pick the one that fits best around your plans. On training day, get here about ten minutes early to get changed and meet the coach.
Bring your gym kit, trainers, a towel and your water bottle. If you use a belt or wrist wraps, chuck them in your bag; we’ll lend you everything else. And that’s about it: turn up on time and ready to work, and you’re sorted.
Is it really worth training while you’re on holiday?
We reckon it is, and not because we’re obsessed with training. Fitting in one or two sessions during the week helps you keep your rhythm, sleep better and offset the beers and big meals (you are on holiday, after all). But there’s more to it: training at a box in another city is a brilliant way to meet locals and experience the south of Tenerife like one of the crowd, rather than just another tourist passing through.
So if you’re down south and you fancy working up a sweat, you know where we are. Drop us a line, book your drop-in and we’ll see you at the box. 🖤
